|
|
Can I mail my submission in paper form ? |
Q1: I accidentally created a
new paper. How do I delete it?
A paper with no owner is considered deleted. Login to your 3DIM2003 account.
On your personal menu, go to "Edit my submissions" (near the bottom of the
page) and select "Edit paper #" (where # is the actual number of the paper
you would like to delete). Near the bottom of the edit page is a box entitled
"Owner(s) of this submission". Delete all userids from this box and submit
the record. As far as you are concerned, the paper is now gone.
Q2: Should the field "Full Name"
include all authors of the paper?
No, there are two kinds of records (accessible to the community at large):
the user record and the paper record. While they are linked,
they contain distinct information. The user record contains personal information;
each author should have his/her own user record (see also Q3).
The "Full Name" field is intended for cases where the author's name contains
characters that are not representable in old-fashioned ASCII (see Q10).
The paper record contains the information related to the paper, including
the complete list of authors. Some information (Contact author) is initially
linked back to the user record of the user who created the paper record.
If multiple authors have registered on our web site, they all can be given
access to the paper record. The box for "Owner(s) of this submission" is
where the the contact author can allow the other authors to have their user
records linked in (otherwise they will not even see the paper). When their
3DIM2003 user ID is entered in this box, they can view and edit the paper
record (every transaction is logged, so damage is minimized). (See also Q1 for another use of the "Owner" box.)
Q3: Does every author of a paper
need to register on the 3DIM2003 website?
No, it is not necessary that all authors of a paper login and register.
However, we do encourage it. It has been our experience that individuals
can 'disappear' for weeks at a time due to conferences, holidays, and the
like, and with additional contact information we have a chance to reach at
least one of the authors. (Q2 describes how to give additional
authors access to the paper record that one of the authors creates).
Q4: Are formats other than PDF
acceptable for draft papers ?
No, we need to keep the number of formats to something manageable, so we
ask that you stick to Adobe Acrobat PDF. This facilitates the handling
and distribution of manuscripts, and ensures that your paper appears to
the reviewer in the form that you intend. There are several commercial and
free tools and services to generate PDF files. Please ensure that you embed
all non-standard fonts. You should test your file with the Adobe Acrobat
Reader version 5.0 or later.
If for some reason you are unable to produce a PDF file, please contact
our Secretariat
at least 3 days before deadline to make special arrangements.
Q5: What will be the format of
the Proceedings?
The Proceedings with be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press and
will be available at the Conference in both paper and CD-ROM form. Formating
requirements for the final paper will be provided by the publisher, if your
paper is selected. For your manuscript, be sure to follow the instructions.
Q6: Can I mail my submission
in paper form ?
NO, we only accept electronic submissions via the Website. The WitanWeb software also manages the
whole review process, and electronic delivery of documents to referees is
a key component for ensuring an efficient review process.
Q7: Who will be publishing the
proceedings of 3DIM2003? Will it be all papers from the conference or just
a few selected papers?
As was the case for previous 3DIM conferences,
the final version of the paper will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press, and will
be made available at the Conference. Every accepted paper will be published
in the proceedings, in both paper and CD-ROM version.
Q8: Does a paper currently being
considered by another conference can qualify for submission to 3DIM2003?
No, only if it is rejected by the other conference/publisher prior to March
21 2003 can you submit it to 3DIM2001. It is considered bad form to have
a paper simultaneously under review for two publications.
Q9: What is due on the Paper
Submission Deadline ?
The deadline is for us to receive, on this website, the draft of your paper
that will be sent to the Program Committee for review. It must be a full
paper, formated according to instructions.
There will not be any conditional acceptances.
We will only accept papers in PDF format.
(See also Q4 for more on formats.) Please note that we
will only accept a single file upload consisting of your paper in PDF.
If your paper is accepted, referees may have suggestions for minor changes
that would improve your paper. The format of the final version will be specified
by the publisher, IEEE Computer Society Press (see also Q5).
Q10: What is the meaning of
the "Full Name" field?
We provide two separate fields in the user record for entering your name.
The first, simply called "Name", is the way you would like to be identified
on our system. The "Name" field is referenced in a number of places (e.g.,
when your create a new paper, your "Name" is copied by default into the
"Contact" field of the paper). The "Name" field should be entered in ASCII
or ISO-8859-1 character sets so as to be easily viewable in Web browsers.
In an international conference such as 3DIM, many people have characters
in their names that are not representable in the ISO-8859-1 character set.
In order to reproduce such names exactly as the author desires in the proceedings
and other printed matter, we provide a "Full Name" field. Here an author
can enter accents or other characters from national character sets. The best
way to provide this data is Unicode (UTF-8 or UTF-7), however other ISO-8859
sets are acceptable. Use the optional comments at the end of the user record
to give us specific instructions regarding your "Full Name" and we will attempt
to publish as specified.
The "Full Name" field is not to be used for entering multiple names (see
Q2).
For the majority of users, the "Name" and "Full Name" will have exactly
the same data. See Q12 for an explanation of the rest
of the user fields.
Q11: What does it mean to 'login'
and how do I create an account?
Access to our system is controlled through a traditional login/password
mechanism. Program Committee Members and Chairs will have accounts created
for them. Authors must create their own accounts before submitting a paper.
If you have not yet created a user account on our 3DIM2001 Website, follow
these instructions:
Connect to the 3DIM2003 technical papers Website (http://www.3DIMconference.org/3dim03-sub.html).
Follow the link to "Electronic paper submission". Under the heading
"For authors", click "Login here to create a new user account".
A blank user record will be immediately created and a form will appear for
you to fill in. Enter a userid of up to 12 alphanumeric characters (upper
or lower case, number, or underscore) that is not currently being used by
someone else and that you will be able to remember. Enter a password made
up of 5 or more characters, not all of which are alphabetic. Forgotten passwords
are by far the largest single source of e-mails to our help desk. We will
not be able to tell you your password, but with proper verification we can
assign you a new one. Please choose a password that you will remember in
three weeks or two months!
Upon acceptance of the form, the password file will be updated and you
will be forwarded to a second form requesting additional information about
you. This form is in the access controlled area; your browser will request
that you re-enter the userid and password that you have provided. With some
browsers and under certain conditions, you will not be offered this opportunity
to login and you will get an error message. If this happens quit your browser
and restart it.
To fill in the the second form, follow the instructions for updating user
information in Q12.
Q12: How do I update my user
information and what do the fields mean?
Upon creating a new user account, or choosing the "Edit user record
for XXX" URL, you will be presented with a form for adding or changing
user data. Please fill in all the requested blanks on the form and press
the "Submit Data" button. Some fields are mandatory and you
will receive a error message if they are not filled in. A word of explanation
on some of the fields follows:
- Your usual name (in ASCII or ISO-8859-1), first name first, initials
(if desired) and last name.
- It is very important that this correct. E-mail is our primary means
of communication.
- Always include your area code and your country code if outside North
America.
- Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the proceedings.
If there are accents or special (non-ASCII) characters, this is the place
to enter them. (See Q10 for additional explanation.)
- Company or University name.
- Enter anything else you want to tell us here (notes about your full
name, a description of a particular problem you had in registering or a question
for the Organizing Committee). It is better, however, to mail problems and
questions to the 3DIM2003 Secretariat.
You may also change your password on this form. After you submit the form,
a confirmation page will appear. If you missed filling in required fields,
they will blink in red. Please go to the bottom of the page and enter the
required data. If all required fields were filled in, a blue "Update accepted"
message will appear. You can then go to your personal menu (the "Go to
main menu" URL at the top of the page), review your personal data (middle
of the page), or make additional changes (bottom of the page).
Q13: I want to submit a paper
to the Special Session on Heritage Applications of 3D Imaging and Modeling;
how is the process different ?
The Special Session has its own Program Committee and Chair. The 3DIM2003 Call for
Papers describes the expected type of papers. When submitting the paper,
you must indicate on the electronic form that your paper is for consideration
at the Special Session. The Program Committee of the Special Session reserves
the right to transfer paper back for consideration by the General Program
Committee, if the paper is deemed more relevant, for example if its emphasis
is on technical issues more than their specific applicability to cultural
heritage. It must be understood that transferts will only be done with
the goal of maximizing the chance of a good paper to be selected, by making
sure it is evaluated in the proper context.
Q14: I am a member of the Program
Committee, and would like to submit a paper; should I create an account
?
In principle, no. You should have already received a user-id and password
for accessing paper to review later on. The same account is to be used for
paper submission, following instructions in Q15.
If you are a PC member and have NOT received your user-id/password, go ahead
and create an author's account, and contact us
as soon as possible to inform us of your registration.
Q15: How do I submit (upload)
my paper?
We encourage you to create a new paper record and fill in the required
fields (e.g., authors, title, track, etc.) as soon as possible. You may edit
this data later. Paper creation and editing URLs are at the bottom of your
personal menu. (See also Q1 and Q2.)
When your paper is ready:
- Login to the 3DIM2003 papers site.
- On your personal menu select 'Edit paper nnn' (where 'nnn'
is your paper).
- On the page entitled 'Edit paper submission record for nnn',
about halfway down, just before 'Contact Information' you will find a box
labelled 'Paper Upload'. Beside the box, you should find a 'Browse'
button. Click on it.
- Locate the file to upload on your local machine, using the standard
open mechanism provided on your machine. Select 'Open'.
- The name of the file to be uploaded should now appear in the Upload
box (In this box you can also type the pathname, but it can sometimes be difficult
to get it right.) If you are happy with the record, press the 'Submit'
button at the bottom of the page. Your browser will now transmit the file
to us.
- Please note that only a single file can be uploaded.
The file you select should be a single file in PDF format.
- Use the 'Download' button to test that the upload succeeded.
In most cases, if you can read it, we can read it. Someone will be testing
the downloads near the due date, but you can assume that 'no news is good
news'.
- Note that the name of the file on our Website is not
the same name as you provided. Your original name is visible (along with a
time stamp) in your paper record.
- The test download is very important. We have observed
that under certain conditions, some versions of Internet Explorer do not upload
properly. Specifically we have observed failures with version 3 on many platforms
and version 4.01 on some Macintosh computers. If you believe your upload
failed, please try another browser, if possible. If you are still unsuccessful
or if another browser is not available to you please contact us as soon
as possible so we can make alternate arrangements. In all cases, if you experience
an upload failure, please send us message with the name and exact version
number of your browser and of your OS.
If you encounter any problems or have any questions regarding this site,
email the 3DIM
Secretariat and someone will respond to you as soon as possible.
