Main Conference Special Session on Heritage Video Theatre
Video Theatre

The 3DIM Video Theatre is a visual showcase of achievements in 3D imaging, modeling and visualization techniques. It encourages submissions of visual representations that illustrate results from new techniques, completed projects, and interesting applications of the technology.  Walkthrough movies and animations may also include narrated explanations and/or sound effects or soundtrack. Given this year's emphasis on applications to Cultural Heritage, entries focused on this theme are particularly welcome.

Format: Submit your work in high quality digital format on CD. The resolution should be 640x480. It is strongly recommended to use Windows Media files (.wmv or .avi) or Quick Time (.mov) format. However, if you use any Codec compression you must include the installer for that compression with your movie. Work in progress movies that are at least 80% complete may also be submitted. In this case please make a note explaining what is missing (e.g. soundtrack) or how the final version will differ.

Length: There is no strict length requirement, however if the movie is too long (usually over 5 minutes), it may not be shown depending on the total time available.

Selection: Submissions are juried based on identical selection criteria: advancement in 3D imaging and modeling, content, technical implementation, innovation, originality, narrative, design, and entertainment value. Submission that have been submitted elsewhere will also be accepted. Any participant to the conference can submit an entry.

Additional information: Contact Sabry El-Hakim, Video Theatre Chair, by email.

Procedure: Your submission on CD must be received no later than June 30, 2003, (5:00PM EST)  at the following address:

Since 1997, the 3DIM Conference is dedicated to 3-D imaging and modeling and their applications. This field continues to strengthen its research basis in the areas of computer vision, computer graphics, and geometric modeling, but also to diversify its target applications, ranging from archaeological site modeling to advanced manufacturing. The 3DIM Conference brings together researchers from all over the world interested in a broad spectrum of issues in 3-D imaging and modeling. The Fourth Conference, held at the Banff Centre in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, will build and expand on this tradition.

The 3DIM2003 Conference Committee invites you to submit original full papers in English by March 21March 31, 2003. As in previous years, the papers will be reviewed by an international program committee. Accepted papers will be presented in single-track oral sessions and a poster session.

The Conference Proceedings are published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. The Proceedings will be available on-site.

Further details on the electronic submission procedure and authors instructions are available in the paper submission section of the conference website.

Papers are invited in the areas of:

Smart/enhanced/hand-held sensors
Sensor calibration methods
Performance assessment
Automated view planning
3-D from multiple images and video
Geometric signal processing
Segmentation, edge detection
Image registration and integration
Multiresolution 3-D representations
Shape and appearance modeling
Object recognition and classification
Surface/solid modeling from images
Reverse engineering
Dimensional inspection
Object/human/site modeling
Manufacturing/medical applications
Heritage, art history, archaeology
Virtual environment modeling

as well as related areas.

Special session:
Heritage Applications of 3-D Imaging and Modeling
(Paper submission is closed; the following information is kept for reference only)

The 2003 conference will dedicate a special session to the area of art/heritage/archaeological applications of 3-D imaging and modeling. In recent years, a number of large-scale projects dedicated to archaeological site modeling or museum collection digitization have emerged as an important driving force for major contributions in the field. The special session will focus on research issues specific to the heritage field as well as on applications of 3-D imaging and modeling.

The Special Session Program Committee is requesting papers describing state-of-the-art contributions in 3-D reconstruction, modeling, documentation, monitoring, and visualization of cultural heritage artifacts. These contributions should clearly show how 3-D imaging supports their conservation, restoration and diffusion. The submission date is the same as for the main conference.
