Instructions for Oral/Poster Presenters

The essential information concerning oral and poster presentations at 3DIM2007 is found here. Additional instructions will be provided at the registration desk. If you need any additional information at this point, please contact us at 3DIMconf -at- nrc.ca, with a title field beginning with the text 3DIM2007.

Oral presentations:

All presentations will be held in the Saisons A&B Room of the Omni Hotel: it is equipped with a LCD projector, a computer, an overhead projector,  microphones and laser pointers.  For presentations, you may use your own computer: please make sure to test its video output beforehand and be familiar with its configuration. We will also ask that you connect it to a video switch prior to the beginning of the session and leave it on the conference front table for the duration of the session, in order to insure a smooth flow of presentations and maximize the time dedicated to the talks.  If you prefer to carry only your presentation on a CD or USB, a computer will be available with a CD reader, a USB port and Powerpoint/PDF viewers; you should avoid using non-standard fonts or video codecs.

Each oral presentation is allocated a total of 23 minutes: please ensure that you provide a sufficient question period at the end of your talk, after all this is the purpose of a conference! You should aim for 18-20 minutes of presentation, followed by 3-5 minutes for questions. The Session Chair is responsible for maintaining the pace of presentations, and will signal the end of your allocated time. He or she will provide you with additional instructions before the session begins.

To ensure that the sessions run smoothly, we ask that you introduce yourself to your Session Chair (identified in the Conference Guide) and to the Technical Assistant 20 minutes before the beginning of your session. If you are planning to use the provided computer, you should load the material and test it as soon as possible during one of the break periods.

Poster presentations:

Poster presentations at 3DIM conferences are an integral part of the technical sessions. In addition to the poster display and discussion session, each poster presenter gives a short 3-minute presentation summarizing the main points of the poster. All the short presentations are given in a single, dynamic and exciting session, before the display session. You can use this time to convey the key points of your poster: stating the problem, impressive results,  key contributions, etc. This short talk also avoids having to repeat the opening sentence “this poster describes a method for…” to everybody, and allows for deeper discussions during the display session.

Since all presenters of a poster session must present in a limited and reasonable time, we must ensure that the talks run smoothly. You can use PowerPoint or PDF slides (we suggest no more than 3 slides), but we request that they are supplied to us before the session, in order to pre-load them on a single common computer. We ask that you contact the technical assistants for that purpose during the afternoon break on Tuesday, August 21. If you absolutely must use your own computer, please let us know at that same time, so that we arrange the order of presentations appropriately:  we will then ask that you connect your computer to a video switch prior to the beginning of the session, in order to ensure a smooth flow of presentations and maximize the time dedicated to the presentations.

You will be able to set up your poster as of 13:15 on Wednesday, August 22 (30 minutes prior to the beginning of the poster session). You will  find the location of  your poster panel from the number in the Conference Guide that will be handed out at registration. The poster board surface allocated to each author consists of two adjacent panels at an angle, each measuring approximately 91cm high x 117cm wide (36" high x 46" wide). Poster boards are made of a soft material that accepts Velcro tape. A supply of Velcro tape will be available in the poster area for mounting your poster. Conference staff will provide you with the proper adhesives.   Authors are expected to be at their poster during the poster session.
